Professional Advisors are appointed by the Trustees to provide any legal, investment and financial advice as requiredGovernance
SIFT is governed by 5 Appointed Trustees with an extensive national, local knowledge and experience in the waste industry, research and development, and industry and business development.
The Deed of Trust provides for the Trustees to co-opt Specialist Advisors to the Board if required.

Appointed Trustees
Chris Pickrill, Chairman
Chris Pickrill is the Chief Executive Officer of Canterbury Development Corporation, a commercially neutral, charitable trust company that is non-sector aligned and acts as the principal economic and employment development agency for the Christchurch and Canterbury region.
Chris has 30 years of broad-based business and teaching experience across a range of manufacturing and service sectors. Chris is widely regarded as an innovating and strategic practitioner with the ability to develop practical solutions to local economic development and employment challenges.
Chris has also played a key role in the establishment and development of the Economic Development Association of New Zealand effectively placing economic development on a professional footing in New Zealand.
Chris has a Masters Degree with Honours in Economics and is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management.
Kevin Felstead, Trustee
Kevin Felstead is an independent Resource Consent Consultant and Waimakariri District Councillor (Oxford/Eyre Ward) of nine and six years standing respectively and has lived in Oxford, North Canterbury for 22 years. Kevin’s Local Government career started in 1985 in Oxford County, followed by an appointment as Oxford’s Administrator and Resource Consent Planner.
Kevin is also involved in several other community organisations including an Oxford School Trustee for 16 years (5 years as Chairman), a Justice of the Peace since 1991, a member of the Oxford Fire Brigade with 20 years service and Civil Defence. Kevin’s community work includes addressing some of the major regional issues facing our region.
Dixon McIvor, Trustee
Dixon McIvor is the co-founder and owner of a Canterbury based Commercial Recycling Operation, Resource Recycling Technologies NZ Limited and a committee member of RONZ, the Recycling Operators of New Zealand Inc., an industry organisation that represents, advocates for, and advances, the diverse interests of its business members.Dixon is also a longstanding former trustee of the Christchurch based charitable recycling trust, TerraNova, and the industry training organisation, Exito (Extractive industries training organisation), which has been instrumental in developing training standards for people working in the recycling industry.
Phil Falloon, Trustee
Phil Falloon is Manager, Membership Services, for the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and has been involved with the Chamber of Commerce since 1991.
He is also a member of the Salvation Army Business Advisory Board, the NZ Malaysia Business Council, represents the Chamber on several Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury Committees, and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree.
Prior to working with the Chamber, Phil had a long career in the commercial banking sector including economic research, international trade services, money market trading, corporate funds management, lending, and retail product development.
Phil is a longstanding former trustee of the Christchurch based charitable recycling trust, TerraNova. Other governance positions previously held include directorships with Workbridge, Mature Employment Service, Launchpad, and Riccarton High School.
Arthur Williamson, Trustee
Professor Emeritus Arthur Williamson is the Founder of Thermocell Limited, one of New Zealand’s leading manufacturers of solar water heating equipment, a Director of ASCO Carbon Dioxide Ltd NZ, and is the current Vice Chair of Sustainable Otautahi Christchurch.Arthur has taught and conducted extensive research in thermodynamics, industrial energy management and solar energy for over 30 years, and is the former head of Chemical and Process Engineering and Dean of Engineering, University of Canterbury, Christchurch. He is co author of the book - Domestic hot water Options and Solutions.
Arthur has a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of Canterbury and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Reading University in the UK, and is a fellow of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand and of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry.
Arthur is a longstanding former trustee of the Christchurch based charitable recycling trust, TerraNova. Other governance positions previously held include founder member and Chair of the Solar Industries Association, and chair of Sustainable Cities Trust, the latter was instrumental in the start up of the Recovered Materials Foundation (now TerraNova Charitable Trust).
Executive Management
Linda Norris, Chief Executive
Linda Norris is Chief Executive of SIFT and leads and encourages waste minimisation initiatives across Canterbury through our Sustainable Initiatives Programme, SE5, and is based at the SIFT Christchurch City Office. Linda has extensive knowledge in science, technology and business development from developing and leading projects in early stage businesses, financial and trust management and senior management, both in New Zealand and internationally. Linda regularly provides national and regional commentary through print media, radio and TV on waste initiatives and sustainable development.
Her work in waste minimisation began with the start up of Christchurch kerbside recycling in 1997, and she carried out the industry wide investigation into the business opportunities for the reuse of solid waste materials across Canterbury. Her work at SIFT now flows on from the groundwork, focusing on sustainable development.
British born and educated Linda has a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Chemistry and Geology from the University of Wales in Cardiff, an MBA with Distinction from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, and is a full member of the New Zealand Institute of Management.
